It all started when Jay D. Lankford was teaching Sunday school class in the late 1970s. He brought his guitar to class once and realized his students loved to sing!
Before long, they were performing events at Chapel of Faith in Stroud, Oklahoma. The Kings Voices were born.
They sang their first official “gig” at the Chapel of Faith, opening for the legendary Chieftains Quartet, with Frank Buck singing lead.
Frank served as the emcee for numerous gospel events around Oklahoma and Arkansas so the Kings Voices took off! The road weeded out those who are dedicated to the cause and those who just want to do it as a hobby, so the band went through several wholesale changes, with plenty of heartache, bad feelings and growing pains. When the smoke cleared, only Jay and his brother Kenny remained of the original Kings Voices.
Jay became the pastor of a small church in Kendrick, Oklahoma in 1980. While there, God began a metamorphosis with the band and Jay's calling. Jay formed another band with Kenny and his wife, Patti. They are excited to be joined in this song and word ministry by Jay and Patti’s daughter, Sarai, bassist John Carr and drummer Kyle Steenveld, together they make up the Last Day Voices.
